Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic lost the US Open title to Swiss professional Stan Wawrinka in the men’s singles final match. The third seed Wawrinka won the title by defeating World No. 1 Djokovic by 6-7 (1), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3.

With this 31-year-old, Wawrinka became the oldest US Open men’s champion in 46 years since 35-year-old Ken Rosewall, who won the title in 1970.

Wawrinka claimed his third Grand Slam Trophy on Sunday. Wawrinka had won 2014 Australian Open and 2015 Roland Garros crown in the past.

Novak Djokovic, who is known as one of the greatest returners in Tennis, was able to convert only 3 out of 17  break chances.

Novak Djokovic, who has won 12 major titles, told AFP, “I lost my nerves in the important moments. He kept his cool. I think that’s what decided the match.”

“I guess sometimes it happens, even though you have the experience and know what to do. Just the heat of the moment and importance of the match, I guess, was too strong for me at certain periods of the match. Just if you lose your cool, the match can go away.”

“He was more courageous, because he stepped in and played aggressive,” Djokovic said, “where I was kind of more waiting for things to happen,” he added.
