Suicide Sqaud: DC fans sign petition against Rotten Tomatoes

Suicide Squad – part of DC’s extended universe has received negative reviews before its release. It seems like the most awaited film of the year has not catered to the critics expectations. However, the upcoming film has been in headlines ever since the release of its first trailer. The DC film has received tremendous support and applause from die hard comic fans since the onset of this year. Be it Margot Robbie’s character Harley Quinn or Jared Leto’s attempt to redefine ‘Joker’, the film has already been registered in the list of ‘cult cinema’ by the fans. But the enumerating negative reviews by critics have disappointed fans. It seems after Batman V Superman, Suicide Squad will also meet same fate with all the disappointing reviews flashing on the internet.

This time DC fans are venting out their anger to all the negative reviews by targeting Rotten Tomatoes – a review aggregator website which has given 31% rating to the Warner Bros’ film.

A 22-year-old student named Abdullah Saleh from Alexandria, Egypt wrote a petition on change.org to shut down Rotten Tomatoes for giving bad reviews to DC films. He garnered support from almost 17,615 people worldwide as they all signed the petition against Rotten Tomatoes.

In an interview with Reuters, Saleh said that he felt “there is some kind of pattern for movie critics to give DC Extended Universe movies bad reviews.”

“I created the petition just to gather DC Fans and express their anger just for fun. I didn’t mean it to be taken that serious,” he added. After receiving overwhelming response from DC fans, Saleh dropped the petition and said, “the only thing that it (Rotten Tomatoes) does is spreading a speech of hate and online fighting.” Suicide Squad is an action packed anti-hero film where supervillains —Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Boomerang, Killer Croc, Enchantress and El Diablo—are sent on an expedition to protect Gotham city.

The film is slated to release on August 5, in India.
