"I don't consider myself citizen of India, a passport does not make me Indian": Amritpal Singh

The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea challenging the election of Amritpal Singh, a jailed radical Sikh preacher, from the Khadoor Sahib constituency in Punjab.

The petitioner argued that Singh is not qualified to be an MP under Article 84 of the Constitution as he does not owe allegiance to the Constitution of India.

The Court advised the petitioner to file an election petition, noting that proper procedures and provisions exist under the Representation of the People Act. Singh, currently in prison under the National Security Act, has been granted parole to take his oath as an MP.
