Supriya Sule defends Sharad Pawar, raises question over Rafale deal

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule on Friday demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee investigation in Rafale deal between Indian and France. She took to Twitter and did a series of tweets defending party chief Sharad Pawar and stated that “It is disappointing that people have not heard Sharad Pawar, where he clearly raised three questions”.

Supriya Sule further demanded that “If the Modi government is so confident of facts then why is it shying away from a JPC probe into the deal?”

Questions raised by Supriya Sule

  1. What is a justification for a 300 percent price increase from Rs.526 crores to Rs 1,670 crores which potentially could be a significant loss to the exchequer?
  2. If such doubts have been raised and the government is so confident,, then why are they shying from setting up a JPC?
  3. When BJP raised both price and specification issues during the Bofors allegations, then why are they hiding behind artificial justification of secrecy of agreements?

Sule’s demand for a JPC investigation came after NCP’s Katihar MP Tariq Anwar resigned from the party over an evident ”clean chit” to PM Narendra Modi over the Rafale deal.

“Our (NCP) national president Sharad Pawar indirectly gave a clean chit to PM, in a statement on Rafale deal. PM is completely involved in the deal. The opposition is demanding constitution of JPC for a probe in it. I’m upset with his statement,” said Tariq Anwar after submitting the resignation. Earlier, Sharad Pawar had said that “Opposition’s demand to share technical details related to the fighter jet makes no sense and the way defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the government’s side led to confusion in the minds of people.”
