The Supreme Court on Monday asked Amity Law School chairman and founder Ashok Chauhan to give details of the steps taken by the administration after receiving Sushant Rohilla’s letter, requesting that he should not be enforced to repeat the year just because of his low attendance.

A bench comprising of Justices RK Agrawal and UU Lalit insisted on hearing Chauhan following a brief round of arguments in the Court.

Notably, the bench also heard Rohilla’s sister, who contended that Amity has filed an affidavit full of lies. She appealed that Rohilla’s side of the story to be considered too.

The Supreme Court was acting on a letter written by Rohilla’s friend to the former CJI TS Thakur. As per the letter, the death of Rohilla was directly triggered by harassment suffered at the hands of teachers and the management at the Amity Law School.

Senior advocate Fali Nariman, an Amicus in the case, also sought that the management must provide an explanation in the matter. He also said that the occurrence itself was “unfortunate” and the Amity law School should be held responsible.

However, senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, who appeared for Amity Law School, contended that the institution was only executing the BCI’s rule.

But the bench looked bent on hearing Chairman Chauhan on the case. The bench then said the Chairman to file an affidavit, after which the issue will be probed further.
