Suspect detained in Tucson; Carrington College lockdown lifted

TUCSON: On Thursday, February 2, a suspect was detained in connection with an incident that prompted a lockdown at a college in Tucson.

At 10 a.m., multiple Tucson Police Department vehicles, including a helicopter, responded to Carrington College, located at 201 N. Bonita Avenue near Interstate 10 and North Grande Avenue, in response to a report of threats and gunfire.

The lockdown was lifted at approximately 11:30 a.m.

There are no indications of a shooting, according to a police search of the building and its surroundings. There were no injuries reported.

The suspect was located outside of the school.

The police did not disclose any information regarding potential charges.

During the initial investigation, both directions of Bonita were closed in the vicinity.

A spokesperson reported that the nearby Intermountain Centers for Human Development was also on lockdown.

This spokesperson also confirmed the presence of the TPD helicopter in the area.
