Teens riding bike without license ordered to regulate city traffic over weekends

A teenager from Pulianthope (Chennai), studying in Class 10 in a government school, was ordered by Juvenile Justice Board to regulate the city traffic for 16 hours over the weekend. This unique punishment was pronounced during a hearing on Friday where it was found that the boy had been riding bike without licence and constantly breaking traffic rules. The boy had even knocked a woman down while riding a bike in January.

Hence, to sensitise the teenager accused of repeatedly breaking traffic rules, he was asked to be present at the Ega theatre junction from 8 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm to learn the traffic rules.

The trail was in regards with the complaint filed by the victim woman who had escaped with minor injuries in January accident. Upon inquiry, it was found that the bike belonged to the boy’s friend and that the boy did not have a driving license when the accident happened. As the case came up for hearing on Friday, the boy appeared in the court and sought pardon from the court. He also told the court that he would not engage in such practices in the future.

“The boy mustered courage and became busy learning all the traffic rules. He narrated his past incident to the motorists and advised them not to violate the traffic norms. He also advised motorists to wear helmets,” said the traffic police officials, assisting him at the Ega theatre junction.
