Warangal: An elderly couple had to resort to begging to get their rightful land back after years of struggle. According to reports, they were found begging along with placards hanging on their neck saying, the local tehsildar had demanded `1 lakh from them to give them passbooks to their land.
Lakshmi and Basavaiah stay in Azamnagar and has a land of 9 acres. The two had to kept running to get their plot which had been acquired illegally by a few villagers.
Basavaiah said, “The Tahsildar kept on pending to issue the passbooks citing different reasons. We also offered Rs 50,000 for him, but the officer wants more Rs 1 lakh.”
N Rajalingamurthy, a resident of Bhupalpalli town who helped the old couple who were begging on streets, said that they collected Rs 650 through begging, before they were stopped by the revenue authorities, stated the Hindustan Times.
After the images of them begging got viral, the district collector V Venkateshwarlu could know about the case. Soon he directed RDO Venkata Chary who issued passbooks in no time.
