An ad published by the Telangana state government last week led to a major controversy after a woman and her daughter were featured in newspaper advertisements of two state government’s schemes with one carrying ‘another man’ as her husband.

The ads for Kanti Velugu (free eye check-up) and Rythu Bheema (crop insurance) schemes featured same woman and daughter but with two different man. While in one ad, the woman and her daughter were seen standing beside her husband, showing them to be a happy beneficiary family, the other showed the woman beside another man.

The incident offended Nagaraju Nayakula and his wife Padma who belong to a village from Kodad in Suryapet. The family is going through a great ordeal ever since the state government published the advertisement.

Government of Telangana has issued an inquiry order against two publicity agencies. As per the investigations so far, the woman and her husband had posed for a photographer associated with Mash Audio Visuals Pvt Ltd in 2013, along with a signed authorisation that their photos can be used for advertising. Mash Audio Visuals Pvt Ltd owns imagesbazaar.com, from which the agencies procured the photos.

Information and Public Relations commissioner Arvind Kumar said an inquiry is on to ascertain if the photos were wrongly used by the agencies M/S Livewires and Tempest.

“The department has issued notices to the agencies asking them if they have authorisation to use the photos as they pleased. We will take appropriate action if they have erred,’’ the official said.
