The telecom sector is expected to shed more than 60,000 employees by the end of this financial year. The consolidation has been pushing operators, infrastructure providers, tower companies and associated retail units to optimise their staffing which is believed to lead to severe job losses in the telecom sector.

Two major fractions that are likely to be affected are

  1. Customer Support
  2. Financial Functions

and a heavy job loss of around 15,000 employees is anticipated. However, the industry will be looking for freshers, artificial intelligence and big data to hire as a replacement to the vacant positions, said Rituparna Chakraborty, co-founder of TeamLease.
