Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has shared the information and said that Telegram has crossed the number of 500 million monthly active users. In view of WhatsApp’s new privacy policy, the platform has added 25 million new users from all over the world within 72 hours. This includes 38 percent from Asia, 21 percent from Latin America, and 8 percent from the Middle East and North Africa.
Durov said in a blog post that “this is a significant increase compared to last year when 1.5 million new users signed up every day.” During our 7-year history of protecting users ‘ privacy, downloads have seen such a surge for the first time. People no longer want to transact their privacy for free service. Nor do they want to be held hostage by technical monopolies. ‘
Signal and Telegram users increases in India
According to data from app analytics firm Sensor Tavar, the Signal app has received more than 23 lakh new downloads in India between January 6 and January 10. While Telegram has achieved over 16 lakh new downloads during this period. In addition, the number of Downloads of WhatsApp has declined by 35 percent. Only 13 lakh new downloads have been received on WhatsApp between January 6 and January 10.
Notably, the WhatsApp user base is roughly 2.5 billion and Telegram’s active user base is 500 million.
