Tension gripped in Rajasthan after incidents of stone pelting at six different places in the state on Friday. Police had to retort with lathi-charge to disperse the crowd gathered to commemorate mourning ceremony observed by Shia community on the day of Ashura in Muharram. Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Rajsamand districts.

One of the most sacred months, Muharram is observed on the tenth day of the first month of Islamic calendar across the world. The Shia Muslims mark the ceremonial mourning on this day called Ashura.

Jaipur: Reportedly, few anti-social elements had joined the shok-yatra in Amer district of Jaipur and started pelting stones to create a ruckus in the mourning ceremony. Two vehicle’s glasses were damaged in the stone pelting that led to the tension in the environment. Later police intervened into the matter to disperse the crowd.

Kota: Muslims in Kota were preparing for the celebration at Kotri Jamal Chawk of Kota where there is a Shiva Temple nearby. A pandal has been placed outside the Shiva Temple to celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi. The two communities had a clash over the demand to reduce pandal size for space on road. A police force was called on the spot to resolve the contention.

Ajmer: Another incident of clash between two groups celebrating Muharram in Ajmer has been reported. The two groups had a fight over the volume of the loudspeaker used in the celebration. The clash turned into stone pelting where people also got injured and were sent for medical treatment.

Devgarh: Devgarh district of Rajasmand witnessed another incident of violence where the fight started with the dispute over road route congestion that was caused due to the procession was taken out to celebrate Muharram. The dispute turned into a bloodshed conflict. Police had to charge lathi to control the crowd.

Rajasmand: The environment in the Rajasmand district of Rajasthan got tensed after someone spread gulaal on the people gathered to mourn on the eve of Muharram. Another community in the district was commemorating Jal Jhulni Ekadashi festival when someone from the group crossing Rajnagar flew some gulaal on the other community.
