Texas Day 2024 (US): If you are a fan of Texas, you should be aware that February 1 is Texas Day. The 28th state to ratify the United States is Texas. Texas, also known as the Lone Star State, is a state renowned for its agricultural endeavors. It is the second-largest state in the United States by area and the state with the greatest number of municipalities. It also contains the two most populous cities in the United States. We honor the state of origin of our favorite items—Dr. Pepper, hamburgers, cattle, rodeo, and live music—on National Texas Day.

The Origins of Texas Day

Texas Day was first observed in 2017 following its online creation. Initially, this holiday was deemed superfluous due to its lack of association with significant events in the state of Texas. Despite this, the holiday continues to be observed as an opportunity to honor the Lone Star State. The name ‘Texas’ originates from the Caddoan word ‘taysha,’ which translates to ‘friend’ or ‘ally.’

Texas’s past is quite peculiar. For more than three centuries, it has been under the territorial control of six nations: France, Spain, Mexico, the United States, the Confederacy, and the Republic of Texas. From 1836 to 1845, Texas operated as an independent nation for nine years. The state of Texas became the 28th to ratify the United States on December 29, 1845. Austin serves as its capital.

The armadillo and the bluebonnet are the official flowers and animals of the state, respectively. Official cuisine consists of chili con carne, a red stew consisting of dried meat without legumes, and the official sport is rodeo. Texas, one of the most expansive and densely populated states in the United States, encompasses 268,596 square miles of land area and is home to more than 28 million inhabitants. The current Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, is in office. Rodeos, special Texan barbecues, live music, sweltering weather, Dr. Pepper, and its expansive size are all notable features. The state boasts of its Schlitterbahn water park, Whataburger, state fair, and breathtaking vistas.
