After the capital awoke to dense fog and an unexpected nip in the air, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder Arvind Kejriwal tweeted saying “Thand aa gayi hai. Muffler nikal gaya. Aap bhi apna khayal rakhe (The cold is here. The muffler has come out. All of you take care too).”
Kejriwal and the muffler began to be associated together when the Delhi CM ran his first chief ministerial campaign in the winter of 2013, a time he would soon come to recall as the winter of discontent, as he stepped down as CM after a mere 49 days.
While he was campaigning, his mufflers became almost like his trademark.
While people poked gentle fun at him for his muffler and for his persistent hacking cough, Kejriwal decided to own the muffler. In fact, after a CBI raid last December at the Delhi secretariat, he joked that they wouldn’t find anything except for, you guessed it, mufflers.
“My office was recently raided. If they raid my house they will find nothing else, but only 4 unaccounted mufflers,” Kejriwal said at the time.
Now that winter has rolled around again, Kejriwal and his muffler are reunited. And he’s tweeting about it, much to the amusement of Twitterati.
