The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur is the most impactful Indian educational institute that ranked at the 57th spot globally, as per the Times Higher Education (THE) impact ranking released on Wednesday, April 22.
IIT-Kharagpur ranks 57th in the world among 766 universities from 89 countries and regions.
According to the ranking index, this is so far the best global ranking in India ’s history. The institute ranks fourth in the world for clean water and sanitation, sixth for zero hunger, 13th for climate action, 21st for non-poverty, and affordable cleanliness Energy ranked 24th. All of these are Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In sub-categories, IIT-Madras ranks 16th in industry, innovation and infrastructure and 32nd in the world ranking of clean water and sanitation. In addition to IIT, Anna University also ranks seventh, and Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science claimed the 18th spot globally in the clean water and sanitation sub-category.
THE in the official statement said, “We hope this great performance will encourage others to take part and demonstrate their commitment to championing a better and more sustainable future.”
“It is the first university ranking to use this criterion, rather than traditional metrics, such as reputation and research prestige,” claims THE.
IIT-Kharagpur and IIT-Madras are one of the seven IITs that boycotted THE global ranking earlier this month, and they claim that their ranking parameters lack transparency.
