Three Arrested for Sexually Assaulting: A twenty-person squad assembled by the police analyzed footage from approximately fifty CCTV cameras in the area and conducted interviews with members of the LGBTQ community. Three suspects were subsequently apprehended, while the pursuit for the remaining two persists.
In Delhi, three individuals have been apprehended on suspicion of committing sexual assault and physical assault against two Bangladeshi men who identify as LGBTQ. The individuals who have been identified as victims A and B (names withheld) have been cohabiting in Delhi. The police report that A, age 22, is from Bangladesh and B, age 27, is from Bihar.
A few days prior, the sequence of events commenced when A, a Delhi-based student, encountered an individual by the name of X via a homosexual dating application. Subsequent to that, A and X formed an intimate bond. Aside from that, C, a Bangladeshi acquaintance of A who self-identifies as gay, began residing with A and B. Both A and C attended the Ramlila festival in the Shakarpur region of east Delhi on the evening of October 17.
As they were returning at 11.30 p.m., they ran into X and two additional males. Upon X’s declaration of interest in engaging in sexual activity with A, A declined and redirected his focus to his companion C. The five males subsequently proceeded to a park.
Three Arrested for Sexually Assaulting: The Attack
After arriving at the park, X and C proceeded to a secluded area, where two additional acquaintances of X joined them. Authorities claim that X and his four companions subsequently subjected A and C to sexual and physical assaults. A and C informed their companion B of the incident as soon as they returned home; B then expeditiously notified the appropriate authorities. Following this, an action has been initiated under multiple provisions of the IPC, encompassing allegations of “common intent,” “voluntarily causing bodily harm,” and “voluntarily engaging in unnatural sexual acts.”
The police investigations
In order to conduct a comprehensive investigation, the police assembled a team of twenty officers who scrutinized footage from around fifty CCTV cameras located in the vicinity. They also conducted interviews with a number of members of the local LGBTQ community. Three of the suspects were subsequently apprehended by the authorities, while the pursuit for the remaining two continues. The detained persons have been identified as Devashish Verma, age 20, Surjit, age 21, and Aryan, age 20.
