Tihar jail inmates have been complaining about the quality of food served to them. However, the prisoners can now delight their taste buds as an improved and a variety of dishes have been added to menu this year.
Few of the dishes from the fresh menu include pav-bhaaji, bedhami puri, malai chaap, chhole bhature and kheer. Prisoners are reportedly elated with the fresh menu and the quality of food.
In the past, jail administration had received repeated complaints about the food quality. Taking the cognition of the complaints, food menu was revamped with the inclusion of new and tasty dishes.
The new menu has been implemented from January 1.
Prioritising the safety of inmates, the Delhi Cabinet last year approved a Rs 120-crore proposal of installing CCTV cameras in Tihar, Mandoli and Rohini jails. The move was also aimed at ensuring that no VIP treatment is meted out to inmates on the premises.
According to the government, the project will ensure safety and security of inmates since there have been incidents of violence which have even resulted in serious repercussions, including murders.
