Platforms for Watching AFCON 2023: The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) declared on January 10, 2024, in advance of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, the completion of a comprehensive international broadcast agreement with the owners of broadcasting rights in Africa, Europe, Asia, South America, North America, and the Caribbean.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be broadcast from 180 countries to Africans and the rest of the world from tomorrow, January 13, 2024, through February 11, 2024.

AFCON typically occurs every two years. At the 2023 tournament, twenty-two nations will participate in fifty-two matches.

Over nine platforms are available for international and African football fans to watch the games.

1. New World TV

For individuals residing in Francophone African nations including Burundi, Cameroon, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Togo, and Burkina Faso, the tournament is broadcast on New World TV, a media organization based in Togo.

The organization obtained media rights for the 46 sub-Saharan African countries that will be participating in the Confédération Africaine de Football competitions from 2023 to 2025.

45 pay-TV platforms and free-to-air stations are sub-licensing the broadcasting rights to New World TV, which is still in its infancy.

StarTimes, a Chinese media corporation operating in more than 30 African nations (Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, Guinea, and Senegal), has been authorized to transmit the tournament as well.

In the interim, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in Nigeria has questioned the legitimacy of StarTimes’ rights due to an alleged violation of the broadcasting code, which has tainted its telecast. Consequently, whether StarTimes will resolve the issue before kickoff remains uncertain.

PayTV, on the other hand, recently declared a subscription fee increase that will take effect on January 10, 2024.

4. Nigeria Television Authority (NTA)

Afro Sports, an Afrocentric sports media company, and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) announced on Wednesday that they have inked a new memorandum of understanding to broadcast the tournament. State-owned national media constitutes Nigeria’s preeminent local television network.

5. GTV (Ghana Television)

The competition will be available in Ghana on GTV Sports Plus, a service of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. Although it is the sole television station in Ghana authorized to broadcast the tournament, it will also be available on other GBC channels.

6. South African Broadcasting Corporation ( SABC)

According to the SABC, the 52 matches will air on radio, television, and digital platforms in South Africa. Following the acquisition of broadcasting rights for the tournaments and other CAF competitions, this occurred.

The matches will be broadcast, among other places, on SABC radio stations and SABC sports channels SABC 1 and SABC 3.

7. CANAL+

CAF reports that the tournament will also be broadcast on CANAL+. Several French-speaking African nations, including Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon, are home to CANAL+. There are presently seven million subscribers in Africa for the platform.

The tournament is on beinSports for US football fans. Sports media are also broadcast in France, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Turkey.

Global TV partners BBC, LaLiga+, SportItalia, Sports Digital, SportTV, Viaplay, and Band TV will broadcast the tournament in 180 countries.
