Transgender beaten in national capital Delhi, police watches at distance

In the national capital Delhi, a transgender is allegedly beaten by a mob in Shahpur Jat area on Monday. A passerby on the road collided with a transgender coming from the other side in the area. He took it as an offence and started beating the transgender. The incident reportedly occurs around 10:30 pm late night on Monday.

The whole incident happened in front of the police presence. The police didn’t take any action against the alleged fight and was a mute spectator. Seeing no support from the police, she allegedly stripped naked. However, locals gathered at the spot allegedly thrashed her.

Three persons have sustained minor injuries following the ruckus. Vehicles parked around the place also reported damaged in the scuffle.

A PCR call was made around an hour later to the incident after which injured were taken to AIIMS for medical examination. The police say that they have not received any complaints so far and action is only possible once the complaint is lodged.

After the decriminalisation of Article 377, this is a pure insensitivity and unapologetic behavior of the Delhi police, allowing such incidents in front of them and waiting for an official complaint of the victim.
