A recent wedding in Kolkata has left everyone amazed by the rituals that were performed at the wedding. We have seen many weddings but this one has left social media gushing about it all over.
The wedding was performed by the female priest, which usually is conducted by a male priest and also another reason for this unique wedding was that the father of the bride refused to perform “Kanyadan” because he believed that his daughter is no one’s property.
A Twitter user who was present at the wedding shared the details by tweeting a picture of the wedding.
Not only this, the wedding broke more conventions as the mothers’ name was taken before the father’s name.
The Twitter user wrote:The user, who shared the post, wrote, “I’m at a wedding with a female pandit. They introduce the bride as the daughter of <mother’s name> and <father’s name> (mom first!!!). The bride’s dad gave a speech saying he wasn’t doing kanyadaan because his daughter wasn’t property to give away. I’m so impressed.”

The smart twitter user had identified the head female priest from the picture. She has identified as Nandini Bhowmick apart from being a female priestess, she is a drama enthusiast and a professor of Sanskrit. In an interview with a newspaper, Bhowmick had said that ‘kanyadaan’ is a regressive custom.
The Twitterati showered mixed reactions on this post, while some of them criticized it; the others were amazed by the progressive wedding and lauded the family for breaking conventions.
This is excellent. Thank you for sharing.
