“Wanted to present Independence gift to nation” says 2 men who attacked Umar Khalid

A video of two men claiming to have attacked Umar Khalid on Monday outside the Constitution Club of India where he had gone to attend an event. In a video, the duo confesses of attempting to kill the JNU student Khalid and has requested the police to stop harassing other people during the search for the real culprit. They have also announced that they will surrender themselves at the house of Sikh revolutionary Kartar Singh Sarabha on August 17.

According to them, by killing Umar Khalid they wanted to present the nation an Independence Day gift. They can be seen in the video saying, “By attacking Khalid, we wanted to give a gift to the people on the occasion of Independence Day”. They have been identified as Sarvesh Shahpur and Naveen Dalal.

The four minute video of the two men confessing with holding an Indian flag in their hands has gone viral on social media and is being widely circulated on WhatsApp. Following this, the Delhi Police Special Cell has launched a search for the two men on Thursday.

Later Khalid shared a photo of one of the person who attacked him posing with the Editor in Chief of Sudarshan News, Suresh Chavhanke and tweeted..

This was followed by a trail of replies on his tweet

Police believe the video was shot either in Haryana or Punjab. The JNU student Umar Khalid was attacked on Monday by an armed assailant outside the Constitution Club of India. He had gone there to attend an event.
