UP: Man tries to sell his child to arrange money for ailing wife

Arvind Banjara, a resident of Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, tried to sell his child in order to arrange over Rs 25,000 for his wife, who had been admitted to hospital due to complications in her pregnancy.

Seven month pregnant wife Sukhdevi was undergoing her treatment in District Hospital when she had develop complications. The doctors had asked Arvind to arrange blood for her treatment but since he had no money, he tried to sell his child but the UP police intervened and stopped him.

“In the district hospital, we were told to get blood for her. They told me that she will not survive if blood is not arranged for her. I didn’t have money, so I had no other option, but to sell my child,” Banjara told to a news agency.

When the police heard of the matter from the people, the Tirwa police station decided to provide full finance aid to the family. “We will take care of the whole treatment process. Besides money, we will also provide blood to her if needed,” said police officer Amod Kumar Singh

The couple has a four-year-old girl Roshni and a one-year-old son Jaanu.
