According to the police, a young woman was allegedly burned by her spouse and in-laws for dowry in Pilibhit.
The spouse and five other members of his family have been charged with relevant IPC offences, including section 307.
SHO Jagat Singh stated that on April 13, Pratap Singh poured paraffin on his wife Rajni for not meeting his dowry demands.
The victim is in critical condition, and her burn injuries have been rated at over 80% by the attending physicians.
They had been married since February of 2018.
The mother of the victim claimed that she provided sufficient dowry for her daughter’s wedding, but her in-laws demanded an additional Rs 2 lakh.
The authorities have begun investigating the matter.
