The government in Uttar Pradesh is all set to rename its anti-Romeo squad launched for the protection of women from eve-teasing and molestation. As per reports, the step comes after the campaign faced condemnation from numerous parts of the society.

The Anti-Romeo Squads criticized as of its name as the critics said Romeo is a famed character by Shakespeare and not a molester. As per critics, Romeo was a lover and lovers generally are not sexual predators.

New name that the Yogi Adityanath government is considering is ‘Nari Suraksha Bal’ (Women Protection Force), according to a report in the Hindustan Times.

Launching of the anti-Romeo squads was one among the many polls promises to protect women as the crime against them was at its peak.

However, it was criticized after an upsurge in the cases of police atrocities on the men and boys in the name of providing security to women. Many had complained of harassment.
