UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2026:The Union Public Service Commission has announced a major reform for the Civil Services Examination process. For the first time, the Commission will release a provisional answer key for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 shortly after the exam is conducted.
The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 is scheduled to be held on May 24, 2026. Earlier, candidates had to wait until the completion of the entire examination cycle including the final results to access official answer keys. The new system is expected to help aspirants evaluate their performance much earlier.
According to reports, UPSC Chairman Dr. Ajay Kumar described the move as “a new beginning” aimed at improving transparency, responsiveness, and timely communication with candidates appearing for one of India’s toughest competitive examinations.

What Changes From UPSC CSE 2026?
Under the revised process, UPSC will publish a provisional answer key soon after the prelims examination. Candidates will also be allowed to raise objections or challenge answers through an official mechanism before the final answer key is prepared.
“These experts possess domain knowledge and subject expertise. They will carefully examine each representation, assess the supporting documents, and record their considered views regarding the correctness of the answer key for the concerned questions,” the statement said.
Reports suggest that objections may be submitted through the Question Paper Representation Portal (QPRep), where candidates will need to provide supporting references or evidence for their claims. Expert panels will review the objections before finalising the answer key.

Meanwhile, UPSC recently uploaded the official answer keys for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 on its website. The answer keys for General Studies Paper I and CSAT were released on May 13, 2026.
“This initiative reflects the Commission’s ongoing endeavour to bring greater transparency, responsiveness, and timely communication with candidates,” UPSC chairman Ajay Kumar said.
Candidates can check official updates, notices, and answer keys on the official UPSC portal.
