US President Donald Trump to speak with PM Modi today

Four days after being sworn in as the Commander in Chief of the United States, the US President Donald Trump will talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi later on Tuesday. A press statement from the White House shows the new US President will have a talk with with PM Modi at 1.00 PM (local time) or 11.30 PM IST.

Both the leaders conversed before when PM Modi congratulated the New York billionaire on his victory in the November 8 in the US Presidential elections.

After their talk, India’s PM will be the fifth foreign leader that President Trump would have spoken with over the phone after taking the chair of the US President on January 20.

While on January 21, Trump spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican Premier Pena Nieto, on Sunday, he had a chat with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On Monday, he had a telephonic discussion with the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Trump’s victory on November 8 in general elections came as a surprise to almost the entire the world.  PM Modi was among the first five world leaders to have congratulated the new president.

“Under a Trump Administration, we are going to become even better friends, in fact I would take the term better out and we would be best friends,” Trump had told a cheering crowd of Indian-Americans in Edison, New Jersey.

Trump had said that he looks forward to working with PM Modi. He also praised the Prime Minister for introducing economic and bureaucratic reforms in India that he feels is required in the US as well.
