In a dreadful incident, a 15-year-old girl was chased and attacked by a stalker who chopped her hand off with a sword in a busy market. The incident happened in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur district on Wednesday. The stalker was trying to chop off her other hand also, but was overpowered by a crowd of 200-300 people. He was handed over to the police later.

The victim was rushed to a medical college in Lucknow. She informed the police that the man, identified as Vinod Chaurasia (19), had been following her for a couple of days. She hadn’t spoken about him to her family.

The victim is a class IX student and remains in a critical condition. Reportedly, Chaurasia lived in the same locality as the victim, who had been rebuffing his advances. On Wednesday, when the victim reached the market in the afternoon, Chaurasia, who works at a welding shop, spotted her and attacked her with a sword that he kept at the shop.

“One of her hands fell off, while the man kept striking at her other hand even as people overpowered him and rescued the girl from certain death,” a local said, as reported by TOI.

“She had lost a lot of blood and she was critical. That’s why she was sent to Lucknow for treatment,” a doctor at the Kheri district hospital, said.

“Our priority is the health of the girl, who is in a serious condition. Once her condition improves, we will record her statement, following which the motive of the attack can be clearly ascertained,” Kheri superintendent of police, S Chinappa, said.

This is not the first time that such an incident has taken place. It is the second such case reported in a month. On 10 August, two teenage sisters were set on fire by two stalkers when they were asleep at home in Bareilly.
