Viral Helicopter Tazia in Bihar: A remarkable scene of communal harmony has turned up from Bihar s Gaya district, where a Hindu artisan has made a fresh tazia again for Muharram. This time not like the usual ones but in the shape of a helicopter. The attention grabbing structure has become a big pull in Jhikatia village under the Imamganj block.

The helicopter shaped Tazia has been crafted by Pradeep Sharma, a Hindu carpenter from Jhikatia. As per local folks, Sharma has been designing and building tazias for around ten years, and each Muharram season seems to come with a newer creative idea. For this year, the aviation inspired version reportedly needed about 20 days to finish, using bamboo, thermocol, coloured paper, and decorative lighting too.
When asked about his work, Sharma said every year is a new sort of inventive hurdle. His skill has got appreciation across different communities, and that’s why his creation is now counted as an important part of Muharram preparations in the village.
Unlike conventional Tazias, this year’s model features a helicopter-inspired design complete with rotor blades, a tail section and a carefully crafted fuselage-like frame. The innovative structure has attracted visitors not only from Imamganj but also from neighbouring areas such as Dumariya, Bankebazar and Budhwa.

Significance of a Tazia
A Tazia is like a symbolic replica, of the mausoleum of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who faced martyrdom in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE. During Muharram, especially on Ashura, people carry Tazias in procession through several areas of India, as a way to remember, to show sacrifice and also devotion.
In the old tradition, Tazias are made by hand using bamboo, wood, paper, cloth, and various decorative materials, and each region slowly shaped its own artistic style over the centuries. Over time their making became more of a seasonal craft and it helps the artisans, while still keeping a deeply rooted cultural tradition alive.
Authorities kept security in place across Imamganj block, since Muharram processions and Tazia displays happened peacefully. Officials and local administration personnel were present during Muharram processions and Tazia displays across the block, which were held peacefully.
