Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has booked as many as four trains, totalling 64 general compartments to carry the party supporters from south Bengal districts to Kolkata on Wednesday, 3rd April for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at the Brigade Parade Grounds, according to The Telegraph report.

The trains would take supporters from southern districts of state ie Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore, Murshidabad and Birbhum, according to BJP West Bengal chief Dilip Ghosh.

“We have hired the four trains in the absence of adequate number of vehicles to ferry supporters to Modiji’s Brigade rally. It is not possible to ferry such huge numbers only in cars, buses and trucks,” the senior party leader was quoted as saying by the daily.

Ghosh said that they are expecting more than 10,000 supporters in each train, which takes the number to 40,000.

According to a rail official “Anybody can hire trains for personal or political use, by paying the rent to the railways. It is not new nor illegal”, the daily informed.

Prime Minister Modi will kickstart his campaign in West Bengal on April 3, with rallies in Siliguri and Kolkala.

Lok Sabha Elections in West Bengal are slated to take place in all seven phases. The state sends 42 Member of Parliament to the Lower House of the Parliament. Currently, the BJP has 2 MPs ie in Darjeeling and Asansol, while the Trinamool Congress has a whopping 34 MPs.
