What is Mission Karamyogi? How will it help civil servants?

The Union Cabinet has approved Mission Karmayogi, the national programme for civil services capacity building on Wednesday. Making the announcements, Union Minister Javadekar said that the capacity building training is needed for the civil servants so they remain entrenched in Indian culture while they learn from best practices across the world.

He further added that the prime objective of the Mission Karmayogi is to prepare civil servants for future by making them more creative, constructive, imaginative, innovative, proactive, professional, progressive, energetic, enabling, transparent and technology-enabled.

What is Mission Karmayogi?

Mission Karmayogi is a nationwide programme that focuses on capacity building of individual civil servants as well as institutional capacity building. The mission is being set up to build future-ready civil servants, who will have the right attitude, skills and knowledge that will be in line with the vision of New India.

Known as the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building (NPCSB), the mission intends to tranfform Human Resource Management from ‘rules-based’ to ‘roles-based’.

Capacity Building Mission:

  • Capacity Building Commission will be set up which will harmonise training standards, create shared faculty & resources & will have a supervisory role over all training institutions so that there’s the common understanding of India’s aspirations & development goals.
  • It harmonises the training standards, create shared faculty, resources, and have a supervisory role over all central training institutions.
  • It aims at building future-ready civil service with the right attitude, skills & knowledge, aligned to the vision of New India.
  • The schemes will be accessible for all, from section officers to secretaries. It will have two paths, self-driven, where the official can choose a field of interest, and guided, where official will be provided with the wherewithal to perform their jobs effectively.
