All you need to know about Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, who is set to replace CJI Ranjan Gogoi as successor

On chair Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, who was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India on October 3, 2018, will demit office on November 17. Before his term ends, he has gone by the convention to recommend the name of the next senior judge after him as his successor.

CJI had written a recommendation letter to the government suggesting Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde Bobde to be his successor.

Justice Gogoi, in his letter, has reportedly recommended that the government start the process of appointing Justice SA Bobde as the next Chief Justice of India.

What is Vacation Bench of Supreme Court?

Justice Bobde is next in seniority after Justice Gogoi. At present a judge of the Supreme Court of India. He is also serving as the Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai and Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur.

Born on April 24, 1956 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Justice Bobde studied in the Nagpur University. He joined the Bombay High Court in 2000 as additional judge. He then served as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2012. Bobde was elevated to the Supreme Court in April, 2013.
