NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest 2024: A wide array of activities awaits attendees of the NBA’s All-Star Weekend. At Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, the most accomplished athletes from both the men’s and women’s leagues will compete in four events that will highlight their extensive skill sets.
The NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest 2024 will feature four participants: Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics, Jaime Jaquez Jr. of the Miami Heat, Jacob Toppin of the New York Knicks, and Mac McClung of the Osceola Magic, the defending champion who amassed three perfect scores on his final four attempts in 2016. Even more remarkable was the fact that McClung was (and continues to be) a player in the G League.

Each dunk in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest is evaluated by a panel of five judges on a scale of 40 to 50 throughout the two rounds. The individuals tasked with distributing the scores on Saturday consist of two men who have previously won the Slam Dunk competition. Dominique Wilkins, also referred to as “The Human Highlight Film,” a former Atlanta Hawks forward who won the competitions in 1985 and 1990, will be joined in attendance by Fred Jones (the 2004 champion), Hall of Famers Gary Payton and Mitch Richmond, and former Indiana Pacers star Darnell Hillman, better known as Dr. Dunk. Each of them possesses considerable expertise and experience in the craft of dunks.

Every dunker has 1:30 minutes and one more try for a total of three. NBA rules define an attempt as the player holding the basketball in midair and propelling it toward the rim, while a try is any action taken to dunk.
The determination of whether a dunk qualifies as a made dunk or a missed dunk rests with the referees. “Replaced” dunks are not possible, regardless of how many attempts the dunker still has. If there is a tie following the final round, the champion will be determined through a one-dunk-dunk-off. Each participant will have a singular opportunity to attempt (as defined previously) throughout the dunk-off round. If the score remains tied following the one-dunk dunk-off, the judges will determine the champion at their discretion. To determine the victor, the judges will raise a card bearing the name of the dunker.
On Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, there will be four events competing in the 2024 All-Star Skills Challenge: the Skills Challenge, the Starry 3-Point Contest, the Stephen [Curry] vs. Sabrina [Ionescu] 3-Point Challenge, and the Slam Dunk Contest. The evening program commences at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT. Live broadcasts of the competition will be available on TNT, DirectTV (which carries ESPN and NBA TV), and Hulu.
