Yechury re-elected CPI-M General Secretary

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to not only show concern over the plight of ‘Muslim Sisters,’ but also talk about widows of his Parliamentary Constituency, Varanasi on Monday.

Yechury while taking a dig at PM’s concern about Muslim women who are victims of triple talaq, said, “If the Prime Minister is really sympathetic towards women then why is he not talking about the widows of his constituency?”

The political leader also asked that why widows are not allowed to remarry and said the large number of widows in the world who are not permissible to remarry are in PM’s constituency.

Yechury backed the Uniform Civil Code but said, it should only be enacted after discussing it with all other religions.

“If you want Uniform Civil Code to be enacted in the county then discuss it with all other religions. And, let us come to a conclusion to reform various practices in all the religions,” said Yechury.
