The ruling party in Centre, BJP is confident that it will have its own presidential candidate in Rashtrapati Bhavan. However, the name of the candidate has not been revealed even after being asked repeatedly. Now, BJP President Amit Shah has said that “Why should I tell you the name our presidential candidate now?” Thus, the secret over who the party’s presidential candidate would continue.
A senior party leader hinted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had a additional of 1,15,720 lakh votes in the electoral college. It also indicated that it had the backing of the AIADMK. The southern party was left with no choice as the Congress invited DMK, the leader said.
Though the NDA had an advantage with the support of, BJP, Shiv Sena, TDP, Akali Dal, LJP and PDP along with a dozen other parties, it was still running short by more than 11,000 votes. Shah has said that opposition parties will be asked at an appropriate time on the matter of presidential candidate.
