IPL 2025 Resume date: The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) was temporarily halted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on May 9 due to escalating security concerns between India and Pakistan. This decision came after a dangerous situation in the region, following a deadly attack in Kashmir on April 22, which India blamed on a Pakistan-based militant group.
India in return launched missile strikes and Pakistan took military actions which escalating the conflict between the two countries. This led to civilian casualties, damage to infrastructure, and the closure of airports, which ultimately led to the suspension of IPL matches.

BCCI due to this announced that the IPL 2025 season would be paused for a week, with the possibility of resuming the matches depending on the security situation.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week,” said a statement released on the IPL’s official X handle. The BCCI mentioned that updates regarding the schedule and venue would be shared later after consulting with relevant authorities and stakeholders.

The situation took an ease when both India and Pakistan agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire on May 10. The ceasefire was brokered by the United States, with former President Donald Trump playing a key role in the negotiations. Following the ceasefire announcement, there is now hope that the IPL may resume sooner than expected.
Due to this there is a chance the IPL could restart as early as May 17, reports News18. The BCCI will need to assess the situation and ensure the safety of everyone involved before making a final decision.

Although many foreign players left India following the suspension, they may return if the situation stabilizes and the tournament resumes. The remaining 16 matches are likely to be played in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad three cities in South India that are away from the conflict zone.

Even though there’s a chance the tournament could continue, there are still big challenges. Most foreign players have already left India, and it’ll take time to get them back. A lot of them might not want to return because of the instability. The BCCI also needs to figure out the logistics and get the necessary approvals from players, teams, and everyone else involved to make sure the tournament can go ahead smoothly.
