The Tamil Nadu farmers who are protesting at Jantar Mantar continue to raise their voices against the Modi government even on the 23rd day of the protest. As days pass, a number of farmers from across the nation are flooding in solidarity. The Bharati Kisan Union collaborated with farmers of Tamil Nadu in addition to over 500 farmers across Punjab pledging to support the Jantar Mantar protest.

The farmers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar since March 14.

“It is a united cause and all of us are going through the same. We have come here to show the government that it is a time that they treat farmers and corporate houses with the same respect. If they can waive off corporate loans, they can write off our loans as well,” said Balbir Singh, president of the Bharti Kisan Union.

Protesters raised their list of demand and scream out slogan at Jantar Mantar, dressed in green. The farmers have also shaved half of the hair on their head and half of their facial hair in resistance. The hair on the body of these farmers represents their land, and they urge the government to save whatever is left of it. Farmers shaved off their moustaches and beards leaving the watchers amazed.

On Monday, Ayyakkannu, the TB farmer leader threatened of cutting his throat. “If no action is taken in the next 7 days, we will then slit our throats here. It is either death or victory but we will not move until either of the two happen,” he said.

The farmer’s demand includes wavering of farmer loans, drought relief fund of 40,000 crores, unification of water bodies, setting up of a Cauvery Management Board and a 50% rise in profit margin for farmers.
