Women's Big Bash League: WBBL 8 finals schedule, format confirmed

The structure and scheduling for this year’s Weber WBBL playoffs have been determined, and the championship game will be played on November 26.

The new finals format that was introduced last summer will be reinstated, with the top two clubs again receiving a major advantage.

In WBBL|08, the top four teams will progress to the finals, in contrast to the KFC BBL, where the top five teams qualify.

On November 26, the top-ranked team after the conclusion of the 56-game regular season will host the championship game.

The third- and fourth-place teams will battle in The Eliminator on Wednesday, November 23, with the winner facing the second-place team in The Challenger on Thursday, November 24, for a position in the championship game.

Both The Eliminator and The Challenger will be played at the second-placed team’s home field.

The match times and each club’s preferred home stadium have yet to be determined, however the midweek Eliminator and Challenger matchups will be played in prime time in the evening.

All championship matches will be aired live on Channel 7, Foxtel, and Kayo, and ABC Radio will provide radio coverage.

In WBBL|07, Perth Scorchers finished the season on top of the standings, drawing a WBBL record crowd of 15,511 to Optus Stadium to watch them defeat Adelaide Strikers in the final.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Big Bash Leagues, stated that the timing of this season’s Final on a Saturday for the third consecutive year will provide fans with the best opportunity to attend the match and watch it on television across the country.

“Similarly, midweek prime time Eliminator and Challenger matches guarantee that fans around the nation can watch the action.

“The WBBL has gotten off to a tremendous start, and we anticipate more world-class cricket from the sport’s greatest players in the coming weeks.”

The WBBL|08 Finals will also coincide with the inaugural Women and Girls Week of Australian Cricket, which will honour the extraordinary contributions of female volunteers, coaches, officials, players, and administrators.
