World AIDS Day: Bihar witnesses 16% dip in HIV affected population

The HIV affected population in the state of Bihar is now low by 16%. At the national level, this figure is 27%. By 2020, nationwide, the target to lower down the number of HIV patients is 75%.

At present, there are 1.15 lakh patients affected by HIV and are getting treated in different hospitals in Bihar. According to a report of National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), in 2010 there were 10,111 HIV patients in the state but in 2017 this number came down to 8,854. This year, the World AIDS Day will be observed under the theme “Know Your Status”.

Rally from Raj Bhavan to Gandhi Maidan:

On World AIDS Day, awareness rally from Raj Bhavan to Gandhi Maidan were held in which school students, people across society participated. Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey flagged off the rally and participated in the event.

December 1st 2018, marks the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day. Started in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.
