Every year on June 5, World Environment Day is marked. This is a UN day that encourages worldwide awareness on the protection of the environment. The day aims not just spreading awareness on the environment but also on initiating and encouraging action on saving the mother earth.

This year theme of the World Environment Day is ‘Air Pollution’. The host country this year is China where several events will take place, marking the environment day.

Also in India, various events will take place on the theme ‘Air Pollution’.

It is the biggest annual event for positive environmental action. This is a day to come together to combat so many environmental challenges that we are facing today. The day urges government, industry, communities, and individual to come together and explore renewable energy and green technologies and improve the air qualities in cities and regions.

Since 1987, the World Environment Day has been held annually and the idea for rotating the center of these activities through selecting different host countries began. Every year the UN comes with a theme and a host country to promote the current environmental concern. This year the theme is beat Air pollution and the host nation is China. The topic this year invites people to consider how can we change our lives to reduce the amount of air pollution we produce.

World Environment Day History, Significance

This day was established by the UN general assembly in 1972 on the first day of the Stockholm conference in the Human Environment. It was after two years, in 1974, the first Environment Day was marked and the theme then was “Only One Earth”. With the observation of this day, the UN aware the protection and improvement of the human environment which is a serious concern among the environmentalists.

World Environment Day has grown into a global platform for raising awareness and taking significant action and it is today celebrated in more than 100 countries. Let’s pledge towards saving the beautiful mother nature
