Organ Donation Day is observed in India, every year on August 13. On this day, government organizations and as well as private companies motivate citizens to donate the organs and understand the value of organ donation.

Who can be an organ donor?

The organ donor can be anyone regardless of age and gender. 

How can you be an organ donor?

There are two ways one can donate organs:

By pledging for organ donation when a person is alive or by consent of family after death.

Which organs can be donated?

  • Kidney
  • Lungs
  • Heart
  • Skin tissues
  • Eye
  • Liver
  • Bone tissues
  • Heart valves
  • Pancreas
  • Cornea
  • Small Intestine
  • Veins

Steps to became a donor:

Step 1: Go to the official website of ORBO(Organ Retrieval Banking Organization), AIMMS.

Step 2: Download the donor form the official website.

Step 3: Fill the form with the details, enter details of two relatives (one of the which should be a near relative to the donor).

Step 4: If your request is accepted then a “Donor Card” will be send to you.

Unregistered donor

If a person expires without registration, then their family members can donate the deceased organs.
