History of World Photography Day

The origination of World Photography Day lies from the invention of the Daguerrotype, a photographic process which was developed by Frenchmen Lois Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1837.

As per the reports, on January 9, 1839, the French Academy of Sciences announced about the Daguerreotype and about ten days later of the French government purchased the patents and announced the invention as a gift free to the world without the copyright.
