World Thinking Day 2024 (US): World Thinking Day, observed on February 22, is an occasion where Girl Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide unite to advocate for girls and young women’s concerns while honoring sisterhood, companionship, and empowerment. This event raises funds for ten million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide, as an interesting fact. Earth Sustainability and Gender Equality: “Our World, Our Equal Future” is the theme for World Thinking Day in 2022.

The History of World Thinking Day

The Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), and additional WAGGGS member organizations have observed World Thinking Day annually since 1926. Today is an occasion to commemorate one’s membership in the worldwide sisterhood, which is comprised of diversity. The chronicle of World Thinking Day is an intriguing narrative.

Camp Edith Macy, which is now known as the Edith Macy Conference Center, in New York, was the location of the 4th World Conference in 1926. Delegates from around the globe gathered at this location to establish a day honoring guides and Girl Scouts. Thinking Day was designated as the joint birthday of Lord Baden-Powell and his wife Olave, the progenitors of the scout and guide movements.

A Belgian delegate later in 1932 proposed that females demonstrate their appreciation by raising funds for the organization through the World Thinking Day Fund. In response to this recommendation, Lord Baden-Powell penned a letter to all Girl Scouts and guides around the globe, requesting a contribution of one penny, which was equivalent to one loaf of bread at the time.

During the 1999 Dubai Conference, Thinking Day was officially renamed “World Thinking Day.” This has since evolved into a massive international event that inspires movement members to consider more significant matters.

Earth Day 2022 will be observed under the theme “Our World, Our Equal Future: Gender Equality and the Environment.” WAGS World Centers are hosting a free World Thinking Day live session in response to the ongoing pandemic. This session facilitates global communication among girl guides and girl scouts.
