Six-time champion MC Mary Kom’s journey at the World Women’s Boxing Championships came to an end on Saturday, October 12 after she lost to Turkey’s European champion Busenaz Cakiroglusemi-final bout against Turkey’s Busenaz Cakirogllu in the 51-kg division.
Mary Kom, seeded third, lost by a split verdict of 1-4. This is her first ever lost at the semi-final stage of the World Championships.
In the quarter-finals, Mary defeated Thailand’s Jutamas Jitpong by a comfortable 5-0 margin.
Before this edition, she had won six golds and one silver at the World Championships, this marks the first occasion when Mary Kom has secured a world medal in the 51kg category.
