The Yamuna River’s water level reached 205.10 metres on Friday morning, nearing the danger threshold of 205.33 metres at the Old Railway Bridge, officials reported.
The previous day saw levels at 204.88 metres, surpassing the warning mark of 204.50 metres, prompting continuous monitoring as waters rise.
Authorities have alerted relevant agencies, issuing warnings to handle potential flood crises. Announcements are being broadcast along the riverbanks, and evacuation plans for around 12,000 residents in low-lying areas are being prepared.
The irrigation and flood control department noted water released from the Hathnikund Barrage, measured at 24,613 cusecs, and Wazirabad Barrage, at 46,290 cusecs, indicating flood threats remain serious.
With the city’s warning mark at 204.5 metres and danger mark at 205.33 metres, authorities are observing closely, prepared to evacuate if levels hit 206 metres.
The Old Railway Bridge serves as a crucial point for tracking the river’s flow and assessing flood risks while district officials actively monitor the unfolding situation.
