For the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification, 12 teams will automatically qualify as the top team from each of the 12 qualification groups in Europe. The 12 group runners-up will have to compete in a playoff alongside the best four group winners from the UEFA Nations League who did not finish in the top two of their World Cup qualification groups.
These 16 teams will be divided into four playoff paths, each consisting of:
- Two-legged semifinals
- A single-leg final
The winners of the four playoff finals will then secure their spots in the 2026 World Cup.
