Days after a 20-year-old Manipuri girl, Chong Hoi Misao, was racially abused and assaulted, a local court in Haryana sent three of the accused to jail following their arrest by Haryana Police from Gurugram area in the state on Thursday.

Now in a recent, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo moto cognizance of the brutal attack on the 20-year-old, Chong Hoi Misao (hailing from Manipur) in Gurugram, Haryana, on Friday, May 15.

The NHRC sent notices to the Haryana Government and the Gurugram Police Commissioner asking for a report on the attack.

In a statement, the NHRC stated, “The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo-motu cognisance of media reports that a 20-year-old girl hailing from Manipur was subjected to racial discrimination and brutally attacked by some locals from Faizapur, Gurugram (Haryana), just for passing through the locality on Sunday afternoon.”

The statement says that the attack amounts to a serious violation of human rights of the victim if the contents of the media reports are found to be true. The NHRC has called for a detailed report in the matter, within four weeks along with the status of the investigation being conducted by the police after registration of the FIR and relief and counselling provided by the authorities to the victim.

The Commission further observed that it is disgusting that a woman from North-Eastern part of her own country has been subjected to racial discrimination and physical assault by a local family in the NCR region.

However, the victim Chong Hoi Misao stated that her CT scan results are normal. The doctor did tell her that there are still some traces of internal damage which would need some time to heal.
