38 arrested for lynching in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district

Bihar: On October 20, In Sitamarhi, two groups clashed after a Durga Puja procession was prevented from passing through a particular area. One person died in the clash. The deceased’s body was publicly burnt.

The procession was prevented entry through a Muslim-dominated area in the northern town of Bihar.  Soon the situation turned bad and the octogenarian, Zainul Ansari was beaten by the mob who later burnt him alive. Zainul was reportedly returning from his daughter’ house.

 

The corpse was discovered by the police after a ‘missing person’ report was filed. Later, the Internet was suspended in the region.

Till now 6 FIRs have been filed regarding the case and 38 people have been arrested. Burman, in an interview to The Quint, said, “Ansari was not part of the two warring sides. He was likely targeted by the mob when he was in the locality.”

Millat Times, a website which broke the incident was requested by the cyber crime cell to take down the video of the incident.

According to the police, a warning had been issued in prior to avoid clashes.
