The OTT platforms surprisingly have come out as a top savior for all of us in the year 2020. Platforms like Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, and Amazon Prime Video have been producing high-quality content all year along. And the end of the year is also no different as the big platforms have come up with some brilliant shows and movies to binge-watch. 

So here are the top 7 movies and shows you must watch the following weekend if you are planning to stay at home at New Year.

1. AK VS AK – NETFLIX

Vikramaditya Motwani directed this dark comedy is a perfect entertainer for the New Year. Starring Anurag Kashyap and Anil Kapoor, AK vs AK track the clash between two contrasting movie cultures in Hindi cinema. The movie revolves around a filmmaker (Anurag Kashyap) who kidnaps the daughter (Sonam Kapoor) of a movie star (Anil Kapoor), and while the star searches for his daughter the director films the desperate search in real-time for his next blockbuster movie.

2. ALICE IN BORDERLAND – NETFLIX

If you love those survival games and shows, then Alice in Borderland is the perfect match for you. Weebs would be familiar with this title as this show is based upon the Japanese manga series “Imawa no Kuni no Alice” by Haro Aso. The plot follows a video-game-obsessed young man who finds himself in a parallel wasteland of Tokyo as part of a survival game.

3. SOUL – DISNEY+ HOTSTAR PREMIUM 

The soul is the latest Pixar mind trip on life and the afterlife of adults. Featuring Jamie Foxx, this animation film is a heart touching musical and a must-watch if you are going through some gloomy days. Tina Fey and Phylicia Rashad also feature in this movie where they narrate the tale of Joe, who after a small misstep is transported to The Great Before (a place where the newborn souls develop their likes, dislikes, and identities). 

4. THE MIDNIGHT SKY – NETFLIX 

A post-apocalyptic drama, the midnight sky features George Clooney as Augustine who is a lonely scientist in the Arctic. The story revolves around Augustine as he races to stop Sully and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe. The film’s an adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s acclaimed novel “Good Morning,” and is directed by Clooney himself. 

5. SYLVIE’S LOVE – AMAZON PRIME VIDEO

Sylvie’s Love is a perfect romance drama to end the year with and we would highly recommend it.  Written and directed by Eugene Ashe, this drama is set in the 1950s. The story follows a woman who works at her father’s record store in Harlem where she meets an aspiring saxophone player. Tessa Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha gave an absolute stellar of a performance in this romantic movie. 

6. COOLIE NO. 1 – AMAZON PRIME VIDEO 

If you are in a light mood or don’t wanna watch those thrillers or post-apocalyptic dramas, then Coolie No 1 is the movie for you. It’s a light-hearted comedy movie available on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by David Dhawan the movie is a remake of a classic Govinda movie. It stars Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in lead. The story follows a coolie who is posing as a millionaire to get married to the daughter of businessman Rosario.  

7. ARIANA GRANDE: EXCUSE ME, I LOVE YOU – NETFLIX 

This documentary of pop star Ariana Grande takes viewers into Ariana’s personal life and backstage moments before those mind-numbing experiences in a concert. This doc features biggest behind the scene moments of The Sweetener World Tour. This movie is a strictly fans-only affair but if you wanna give it a shot, then this weekend you can.
