Mumbai: Fire breaks out in Air India building

A massive fire broke out at Air India building, Marine Drive in Mumbai, on early Tuesday, with no casualties being reported so far. The firemen brought the fire under control at around 9 am and said that no one injured in the occurrence.

It is commercial 23 floor building with two floor basement parking. A Mumbai fire department official said, “We received a call at around 6.41 am that a fire had broken out on the 20th floor of the building,” he said.

Ten 10 fire tenders were sent by the fire brigade to the location to douse the fire. “Rescue work is in progress,” the official added.

Even though, no known casualties have been reported, ambulances are there to the spot for any emergency. Since it is a commercial building with packed offices, there might be very few people in the building at that hour.

According to the fire officials, the fire was restricted to the electric wiring, installation, furniture, window, doors in CMD and other offices.  Reportedly, the documents on 23 and 22 floors have been destroyed in the blaze.

The fire later spread to the lobby area of 22nd floor that caused problem in firefighting operation. The cause of the fire is yet to be known. The police are probing the matter further.
