Buxar jailbreak: 5 prisoners escape, inside hand suspected

Five prisoners absconded from the Buxar central jail in Bihar on Saturday, said police. As per the reports, prisoners including Sonu Singh (Buxar), Sonu Pandey (Ara), Upendra Sah (Ara), Deodhari Rai (Saran) and Pradip Singh (Motihari) — broke the jail with the help of bed sheets.

The escaped inmates were serving thorough imprisonment. They had pretended to be ill to get themselves admitted to the medical ward before attempting the jailbreak.

A high alert has been issued by the Bihar government and the area was cordoned off.

Search is on to trace the absconding prisoners but no progress has been reported so far. Initial probe suggests that insiders may be drawn in to facilitate the jailbreak.

Soon after the incident, the Buxar district magistrate and superintendent of police reached the spot.

While one of the prisoners was accused of rape, another was serving life sentence suggest reports.

The incident occurred two days after the Buxar district administration found some objectionable objects while conducting a search.

Notably, this is the third key occurrence of escape from a central jail in 2016. Recently, in October, eight SIMI activists ran away from the Bhopal central jail. Besides, Khalistan Liberation Front terrorist Harminder Singh too escaped from a Punjab jail in November this year.
